Welcome to The Bike Affair’s bicycle assembly instructions! Whether you’ve just purchased a bike from us or stumbled upon our blog seeking guidance for assembling your bicycle, we’re thrilled to have you here. Our goal is to make the assembly process as seamless and enjoyable as possible, so you can get out on the road and start exploring.
Before you begin, make sure you have the necessary tools handy:
1. Scissors
2. 4/5/6 mm allen keys
3. 15 mm wrench
Now, let’s dive into the assembly process. Follow each step carefully, and soon you’ll be enjoying the thrill of riding your new bike from The Bike Affair. Let’s get started!
7 Simple Steps
Step 1 – Unpack Your Bike
Begin by removing all packaging materials (bubble wrap, tape, foam, and zip ties). Use caution when cutting zip ties or tape to avoid scratching the frame.
Step 2 – Handlebar Installation
Using a 4 mm allen key, remove the four bolts from the stem. Align the handlebar as demonstrated in the video and secure it by tightening the bolts one by one. Don’t worry about perfect alignment at this stage; just ensure the handlebar is securely in place.
Step 3 – Front Wheel Installation
Using a 6mm allen key, unthread the thru-axle from the fork and remove the brake spacer from the brake caliper, keeping it safe for future use. Guide the wheel into place, ensuring the rotor fits between the brake pads, then secure the wheel by screwing in the thru axle firmly by hand. Aim for a torque of 5-7 nM.
Step 4 – Seatpost Installation
The seapost assembly spray is already sprayed on the seatpost. Loosen the seatpost bolt using a 5mm allen key, insert the seatpost, and align it straight with the top tube. Tighten the seatpost clamp bolt to a torque of 5-6 nM.
Step 5 – Tire Inflation
Inflate the tires to the recommended pressure indicated on the sidewalls. Generally, maximum – 10 psi is a good starting point. For example, if the recommended range is 80-100 psi, 90 psi (100-10) is good.
Step 6 – Handlebar Alignment
Stand over the bike, loosen the handlebar bolts, and center the handlebar using the guide lines marked at the center. Align the hoods parallel to the ground. Begin tightening the bolts in an X-pattern (1-4-2-3), ensuring even rotations until all bolts are securely hand tightened to a torque of 5 nM. It’s crucial to maintain equal gaps between the stem and the top and bottom.
Step 7 – Pedals Installation
Identify the left and right pedals by the markings on the axle (L for Left, R for Right). Thread the right pedal clockwise into the crank by hand, ensuring it’s perpendicular to the crank. If resistance is felt, recheck alignment before proceeding. Once hand tightened, use a 15mm wrench to finish tightening, applying light force. For the left pedal, tighten counterclockwise following the same process. Avoid using excessive force to prevent damage to the crank threads.
Follow these steps carefully, and enjoy your ride with The Bike Affair!
